A kilt pin has been worn with kilts since Queen Victoria used a hat pin to secure a soldier's kilt on a windy day. This tradition allows you to wear a pin of your liking, and the only rule is that it should be worn on the right side of your kilt and pinned only through the front apron to stop any sort of tearing. It needs to sit about four inches from the bottom of the kilt as well as around two inches from the fringe.
